Weekly Update 33

April 11, 2025

Happy Passover and Happy Spring to everyone,

A month ago, it was brought to my attention that the council had erected a physical barrier in the form of a checkpoint on the road connecting Wine Park to Malchei Yisrael and Barak Streets. I already wrote to you in the newsletter a month ago about this barrier, which blocked another entry and exit point for residents of the Wine Park neighborhood and Neve Sharett.

  • This blockade violates the approved zoning plan (Plan No. 656).
  • This blockade contradicts what was communicated to the 250 families who moved into the new neighborhood, who were told they would have access via this street.
  • A roadblock imposed without the proper procedure of informing the public and hearing their views.

I can now report that, as usual, the council head and council staff did not respond to my inquiry. So I proceeded to write to the police and the Ministry of Transportation. This week, just before the issue was raised on the regional radio station where I was interviewed, I received responses from them. Their astonishing responses indicate that the local police station was unaware of the roadblock and even claims it is not within its jurisdiction (I checked and it is, so I will also contact the police’s legal department). And the Ministry of Transportation’s response indicates that it was completely unaware of the roadblock. It’s simply the Wild West.

You’re invited to listen to my interview on Regional Radio about the roadblock. I posted it on Open Stage.

For those who aren’t members of the Facebook group “Zichron Yaakov – Free Stage,” here’s a link to the recording from the Regional Radio page.

Thank you for reading, commenting, asking questions, and supporting us. I will continue to share essential information with you about what is happening in the council and the community.

There will be no newsletter next Friday (unless something happens that requires your attention). I’ll resume updates after the holiday.

Happy holidays, and in the hope that all the hostages will return.
